Cross-country Skiing in Cervinia: A Day Out Immersed in Nature

Skiing is not only downhill. And in Cervinia we know that well.
In fact, in Cervinia and Valtournenche there are also two beautiful cross-country trails: equipped, panoramic and exclusively covered in natural snow.

Therefore, those who prefer the regenerating peace of cross-country skiing to the adrenaline of downhill skiing can find what they are looking for at Cervinia: the opportunity to devote themselves to this sport in complete safety and to treat themselves to a wonderful excursion face to face with snow, mountains and nature.

Cervinia’s Cross-country Trail

Located a short distance from the center of Cervinia, this cross-country trail coincides with a loop suitable also for beginners.
Its 3 km of sunny slopes represent one of the strong points of this trail at the foot of the Matterhorn.

Actually, two different parts or loops can be identified within the same trail.

The Easy loop coincides with the flatter part of the trail, which develops over wide snowy meadows. The only more demanding parts of this loop are two short descents, which can be tackled without any particular problems even by beginners.

The Medium-Easy loop breaks away from the easy one in the part of the trail that is closest to the valley. Here, in fact, you can follow a trail that includes some ascents and descents of medium-low difficulty. Since it passes near an avalanche barrier, this trail can only be negotiable when the conditions permit absolute safety.

Located 2,050 meters above sea level, with a magnificent view of the Grandes Murailles mountain chain, the Cervinia trail is open all winter, always covered in natural snow.

Where it is

The trail is located in front of the “Casa dello Sport” in Cervinia and it is open every day from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

Starting from our hotel, you can reach the trail on foot in less than 5 minutes.

Champlève’s Cross-country Trail

Ideal also for more expert skiers, this cross-country trail is located in Champlève, a small mountain village 2 km from Valtournenche.

The Champlève cross-country trail is made up of 3 different loops, with different difficulties.

Loop 1: simple 3 km route for beginners.
Loop 2: 2.5 km-long route of intermediate difficulty.
Loop 3: A route of 3.8 km with a fairly difficult and tiring ascent. For experts.

All three loops are immersed in a picturesque and uncontaminated landscape. For this reason, they represent an excellent way to escape from the daily chaos for a few hours and regenerate yourself in the midst of nature.

Where it is

The Champlève trail is located on the road leading to the Cheneil basin, near the “Champlève” bar, where you can buy daily tickets and rent equipment.
Opening hours: every day from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

Starting from our hotel, you can reach the trail in about 20 minutes by car.
